Our crew typically sends three to four personnel for a piano job. The instrument gets partially dismantled on-site: the front panel comes off, the lid is removed, and the pedal assembly is detached. This reduces the profile enough to navigate tight corridors and doorways. For ground-floor or lift-accessible pickups, the piano moves out largely intact. Stairs change everything. A fourth-floor walk-up means the piano may need further breakdown — separating the iron frame from the timber casing — before anything moves safely down a stairwell. If you're in the middle of a move-out or handover clearance, the piano is usually the single heaviest item on the list. Getting it sorted early makes the rest of the job simpler.
HDB Flats
HDB blocks don't have a service lift. The piano goes through the same passenger lift everyone else uses, so timing matters — we avoid peak hours where possible. If your unit is in a walk-up block without a lift, that's a stair job, and we'll factor the floor count into the quote. Your town council does offer bulky-item collection, but they require you to dismantle the item yourself first and bring it to the collection point. For a 200-kilogram piano with a cast-iron frame, that's not realistic for most households.
Condos and Landed Properties
For condos, the owner or tenant needs to arrange MCST approval and book the service lift ahead of our arrival. If your building management requires lift padding, that's arranged through them directly — confirm it's in place before the pickup day. Access rules vary widely between developments, and we've encountered everything from strict two-hour lift windows to buildings that need 72 hours' written notice. Where the Piano Goes Afterwards
The cast-iron frame and steel strings get routed to metal recycling channels through licensed intermediaries. The timber casing — usually spruce, maple, or a laminate — goes through wood recycling or general waste processing depending on condition. Usable pianos in decent shape may be redirected for reuse. Nothing ends up where it shouldn't.
